ABOUT
Forest trail to Siltcoos Lake past historic logging stumps, 13.5 miles north.
This trail descends through mature coastal forest to the western edge of Siltcoos Lake. Sounds are muffled by a deep carpet of hemlock needles, and the dense canopy shelters hikers from summer sun and winter rain. Massive stumps remain from 1930s logging — look for the notches that once held springboards, the planks loggers stood on while hand-sawing a tree. Halfway to the lake the trail splits into a loop, with both directions reaching the water in about a mile. Located 13.5 miles north of Reedsport on US 101 at milepost 198; turn east into the trailhead parking. Distance: 2.25 miles one way. Difficulty: Moderate. Fee/pass required for parking; vault toilet on trail.
